Was part of the Everton Youth Team that reached the final of the Youth Cup in 2002.
Scored 8 goals in as many games during the same cup run including the famous amazing 40-yard strike against Tottenham.

His amazing 30-yard strike against the champions Arsenal was enough to convince the judges. The 17-year-old striker was handed the gong by England coach Sven Goran Eriksson as his manager David Moyes watched on from the audience.
