Was part of the Everton Youth Team that reached the final of the Youth Cup in 2002.
Scored 8 goals in as many games during the same cup run including the famous amazing 40-yard strike against Tottenham.

His amazing 30-yard strike against the champions Arsenal was enough to convince the judges. David Moyes presented him with the award at Bellefield.09/12/2002 - Wayne Rooney was named the Young Sports Personality of the Year at the star-studded BBC sports awards. The 17-year-old striker was handed the gong by England coach Sven Goran Eriksson as his manager David Moyes watched on from the audience.
